The Old Excise House was Built in 1906 by Laphroaig distillery to house Excise Officers. It now offers a warm welcome to guests visiting the beautiful hebridean Isle of Islay. Emma and Ron provide a 'home from home' experience, ensuring a relaxing and memorable stay on Islay.
The rooms are on the first floor, have sea views and are furnished and equipped to an excellent standard, including Egyptian cotton bedlinen, local 'spirited soap' toiletries, homebaking, wifi and ensuite facilities with a choice of walk in shower or large cast iron roll top bath. The guest sitting room with woodburning stove is the perfect place to relax with plenty of books, magazines, maps and board games.
The house is ideally positioned on the coast a few minutes drive from port Ellen and within walking distance of the world famous distilleries of Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. The RSPB reserve on the OA, the championship Machrie Golf course and the Kildalton Cross are all within a short drive.
Special diets are catered for and as much local produce as possible is utilised. Homebaking is a speciality and The Old Excise House has received a Scottish Homebaking award. Golf tuition with host PGA professional Ron Goudie is offered. Whisky and sightseeing tours can be arranged.
